About

John J. Urbanski is a graphic artist and designer living in Oregon.

After graduating from the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, he worked as a freelance designer taking briefs from clients as varied as the Multnomah Bar Association to a children’s book publisher. During that time he also did an internship with Senator Jeff Merkley’s 2008 campaign where he served as the inhouse graphic designer.

For the past four years, he has worked as the Lead Designer for Visionem, Inc. where he manages the art department and shapes the look of all new visual materials.

John believes that in an age of information-overload, the biggest challenge of modern design is just getting people to stop and notice. That is why good design cannot simply be the conveying of information in an orderly way, but in addition: it must catch people’s eye! There is so much noise today (both audibly and visually) that if you don’t do something that catches people’s attention, your message will never be heard above the drone.

When not designing, John likes painting, escape games, Oregon Ducks football, anything historical, and traveling with his wife Maya.
